A Case for Cross Layer Design: The Impact of Physical Layer Properties on Routing Protocol Performance in MANETs
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this work we evaluate the performance of routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks using different physical layer models. The results obtained show that the performance results obtained using idealized models such as the free space propagation model vary significantly when propagation effects such as path loss and shadowing are considered. This difference in performance indicates that optimization is required in the protocol development space that takes into account channel state information (CSI). Such an optimization requires a cross layer approach to be adopted and a framework for protocol performance evaluation to be established. We believe that this work would serve as a first step in this direction. We provide comparative performance results through network simulations. Keywords-Ad hoc networks, Cross layer Design, Routing

Secure Routing Protocol: Affection on MANETs Performance
In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...
متن کاملA Cross-Layer Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Based On Minimum Interference Duration
Cross-layer design of routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) has become a hot research topic in recent years. By integrating physical layer, MAC layer and network layer together for cross-layer design, a cross-layer routing protocol called MIR is proposed in this paper. Via predicting the duration of the interference imposed by the neighbors at every hop along the route, a new rou...

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are receiving a significant interest and are becoming very popular in the world of wireless networks and telecommunication. MANETs consist of mobile nodes which can communicate with each other without any infrastructure or centralized administration. In MANETs, the movement of nodes is unpredictable and complex; thus making the routing of the packets challenging....

The versatile Ad hoc Networks provides communication among wireless nodes which occurs in the wireless medium. Energy effective routing in MANET [5] is a demanding goal which should be taken under consideration. Moreover, energy effective routing is considered to be the most important design criteria for MANETs because mobile nodes will be powered by batteries with limited capacity. The archite...
متن کاملAn Energy Efficient Multipath Routing Protocol Based on Signal Strength for Mobile Ad-hoc Network
In recent years, Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) is one of the popular research areas due to low cost to employ the network, self-organization, freedom of location, and no base stations. Broadcast and data aggregation are crucial operations in MANETs. Due to the high mobility of nodes and the transmission distance, nodes may change their positions rapidly and thus not only change the network to...
